Scotiabank Centre is the largest multipurpose facility in Atlantic Canada
and the hub for major events in Nova Scotia. It serves as the region’s
premier venue for sports and entertainment. In 2019 VWMason Technology
Consultants designed the replacement of the centre-hung scoreboard, video production control room, and broadcast cabling. The focus of the 2019 upgrades at Scotiabank Centre was modernization. The existing in-house broadcast systems were still 4:3 Standard Definition, and the scoreboard no longer met the requirements of upcoming international hockey tournament standards.
The Centre Hung Scoreboard was the most public portion of the project, and right-sizing it was of utmost importance to the client. The existing in-house broadcast systems needed a complete overhaul, including both the video production control room equipment and the broadcast cabling infrastructure. Additionally, the control room required a full renovation, encompassing new electrical systems, a dedicated central equipment room, HVAC upgrades, and a redesigned operator station layout to accommodate a larger production team. For the in-house broadcast equipment, VWMason designed a fully-featured solution enabling a small production team to deliver a professional game presentation experience for various sports and special events.
Recently, the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Scotiabank Centre
identified the need to upgrade the performance and distributed audio systems at Scotiabank Centre, along with the network infrastructure. VWMason was contracted again to design these systems fully. Set for installation later this year, we are excited to be part of another exciting project at Scotiabank Centre.
