The Calgary International Airport is a hub of the city. The terminal building spans over 140,000 square metres with a clear vision to deliver a “sense of place” to the millions of passengers that come through their doors each year. In order to enhance this vision, the Calgary Airport Authority contracted VWMason to revitalize the domestic baggage claim area in 2019 by incorporating technology into the space. The intent was to complement YYC’s branding strategy, and provide the opportunity to display revenue-generating third party advertising, passenger-facing messages and alerts. YYC erected purpose-built walls on all seven baggage claim units. Each wall was covered in vinyl wrap complementing the YYC branding strategy. The focal point of each wall is commercial large format LCD displays that establishing visual uniformity, and bringing captivating media to the audience through visual media and messaging.

In 2020, VWMason was contacted again to assist in the design and construction administration for the new WestJet Check-In displays. This involved the design of custom housing for professional-grade, high-brightness displays that are vertically mounted on concrete pillars throughout the area.
